...they will come. I'm talking about the creation of acronyms buzzwords that lead to ridiculous hype about pre-existing technologies. The specific example that I'm thinking of is AJAX. Another good example would be Ruby on Rails, although it's not quite as hyped as the former. And, of course, there's always the convergence of the two. (demos!)
Perhaps this happens because "AJAX" (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, for the uninitiated) is a bit more succinct than "Kludge for Pre-loading [data] Using Hidden (i)Frames that Developers Used Long Before Such Things had an Acronym"; the acronym is certainly more euphonious than KPLUHFDULBSTA (kuh-PLUF-dul-BUS-ta?)...
